The 30 day Racism Detox challenge

Racism isn’t something that happens far away. It’s present in our daily lives, in casual remarks, in systems and sometimes in awkward silences. Many people feel powerless: “What can I do about it? What actually helps?”

At the same time, society has become more polarised. Discussions about racism either break down or are avoided altogether. People want to engage, but feel unsure how to act, or fear resistance and aggression.

We believe there is another way. A way that begins with awareness and small steps. By acknowledging racism and not waiting for others to act, but by taking action ourselves.

Not everyone can do everything, but everyone can do something!

We want to show that we can all contribute, but that it requires making a choice and taking action.

In this way, we are showing that combating racism does not have to be a lonely and arduous struggle, but can be a source of hope and a unifying force. That action is indeed possible when powerlessness is transformed into strength. Let’s create a Ripple Effect.

Is there no room for racism in your life? Then show it and activate your network! Personalize the frame for your social media. Also check out the toolkit for more information and background resources.

How to participate in the 30-day challenge

Join the national movement and create the ripple effect of change together with us. Participate, alongside individuals and partners who are co-investing, in a campaign that speaks to, inspires, and activates people.

With the Racism Detox, we are launching an experiment: what happens when we all do one small daily action against racism for an entire month?

We call this micro-inclusion: small gestures, words, or choices that make a big difference. Because every action is like a ripple in the water that influences the bigger whole. And together, we can create waves.

How does it work?

  • A small action every day: we offer online guidance and a toolkit with resources.
  • Sharing together: through social media and in-person gatherings, we inspire each other and make the impact visible. Use the hashtag #RacismDetox and tag the pages.
  • Collective strength: by collecting stories and actions, we show that no one stands alone. Share your story on your own platforms through video and text.
  • Platform & stories: through podcasts and online platforms, among others, we give space to voices and experiences. Look for in-person gatherings to share your story.

BUSINESSES

How can I participate as a company?

You can also take part in the Racism Detox as a company. Share the campaign and the messages with your colleagues on social media or through your internal communication channels. Be an example leader in your organization and show that there is no place for racism in your workplace.

In addition to sharing the micro-inclusions or personalized frame on your internal and external communication channels, you can also participate in the Racism Detox in other ways, even after the 30-day challenge. See some options below. Would you like more information about the possibilities? Email: mail@racismdetox.com.

Organize Ripple Tables

Ripple Effect Tables are gatherings that organizations can arrange to bring together partners or colleagues to have informal but necessary conversations around shared values, personal experiences, and inclusion-related topics . It is not a panel or large event, but an intimate gathering where space is created for listening and connection.

Organize Ripple Labs

Ripple Effect Labs are short workshops (90–120 minutes) organized by official Ripple Effect partners and led by invited experts or trainers. Each Lab focuses on a topic of choice from the company and explores everyday inclusion challenges with practical actions that participants can apply immediately.

Invite Halima and Şeydâ as speakers

Would you like to learn more about the Racism Detox, anti-racism, and inclusion? In addition to the Ripple Effect Labs and Tables, you can also invite Halima and Şeydâ as a keynote speaker, facilitator or panel member.

About us

The people behind the Racism Detox

We are Halima el Hajoui-Özen and Seyda Buurman-Kutsal, experts in the fields of exclusion, racism, inclusion, and equality. In our work, we receive daily questions from people who want to do something about discrimination and racism but don’t know how to act. Often, people choose to do nothing, or don’t dare. We don’t see that as an option. That’s why we want to help each other take action. Together!

Racism and discrimination often affect multiple people at once:

There is the person who causes the situation through words or behavior, which can be conscious or unconscious.
Those words or behaviors often affect another person, who carries the negative experience with them.

There are often bystanders who witness it happening.

The question is: “What position are you in, and what can you do from there?”

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What do you mean by micro-inclusion?

Micro-inclusions are small actions that contribute to a more inclusive world. Think of: speaking up to someone, asking a question, making space, correcting yourself. Small actions, big impact.

The Racism Detox Challenge is an invitation to take one small action against racism and exclusion every day for 30 days. No grand statements or complicated theories, just practical, daily choices that together make an impact.

While anyone can take on this challenge, it is This challenge is particularly helpful t for people who want to learn how they can be a part of eliminating racism and discrimination. Making mistakes is part of it. Not acting keeps systems in place.

Addressing racism can be difficult. We believe we all have the courage to do this. Doing nothing is also a choice, and often it’s not the one we want to make. This challenge helps you move from awareness to action, in a way that is achievable, concrete, and supportive. You are not alone and have this community to support you.

Sometimes a few minutes. Sometimes a conversation. It’s not about time, but about intention and attention.

That’s not a problem. Then you pick it up again the next day. Perfection is not the goal. Awareness and movement are.

No, nothing is required. But sharing does help. It makes impact visible, inspires others, and shows that we’re doing this together.

That can happen. Change sometimes causes friction. But growth lies precisely in that discomfort. You are not alone. Connect with others doing the challenge and know that you have support within the community.

No. It is especially also for people who (think they) see it happening but don’t know how to act. This is an invitation to everyone.

More awareness. More ability to act. More connection. And perhaps most importantly: the feeling that you are no longer standing on the sidelines.

Absolutely! You can join at any moment.
